Twilight Sparkle's last stand against the Red Bull.
The line art was drawn traditionally on four sheets of paper. The coloring was done digitally and is my first time ever working with a tablet, a WACOM Intuos4 given to me as a special gift by Calpain of Equestria Daily. I'm a complete newbie with tablet coloring so once it was working, I blurred it out and did most of the work via mouse.
This was a commission based on the fanfiction Equestrian Knights by Solaris90.
I took some liberties with the colors, and technically the bull should be completely on fire. Here's how the scene was described to me.
"It's a Tolkienesque story/scene involving Twilight staring down a balrog-like creature inspired by the Red Bull from The Last Unicorn.
Twilight in his story has a pair of wings, royal blue, somewhere between Rainbow Dash's color and Twilight's own. Her wings are larger than a pegasus's wings, yet not so large as to look awkward on her). She wears a cloak of pure black, similar in style to what she wore as the Mare Do Well but with sleeves for her front legs. Underneath this cloak she gets a vest similar to what Braeburn wears, except black and silver rather than two shades of brown. Finally she wears four black boots. All in all, she looks like she's prepared for a funeral; her own. Her cloak also has a hood.
Now, the balrog. It's about four times the size of Twilight, each of its horns as long as her body. It looks something like a great mass of flame and shadow in the shape of a bull, its face almost skeletal like the balrog in the LOTR films, liquid fire dripping from its mouth like drool. Also, no hands, just cloved hooves.
The scene from the story this pic is referencing will be near the end of the fight, and it would show on Twilight. She should be beaten and bloody all over, her cloak torn and burnt, and a wing crumpled to her side as if broken. If the picture is angled to show her face, have the right eye closed and horribly bloody. This would look like the Last Stand of Twilight Sparkle."
I am speechless. This is just...incredible. The coloring, the shading, everything. I love it. I thank you for making such a great piece of art for my story.
