Vastegar is a dark fantasy adventure, set in modern day.
An ancient evil finds physical form, as a young woman discovers her father's secret - Five centuries ago, he and his brother performed an unspeakable act, selling their souls in exchange for immortality. One of the brothers found redemption in love - the other did not.
Now she must face her family's curse and do battle with the immortal, soul-devouring knight and his army of phantoms, before he can reshape the world in his own image, even if it costs her her sanity and soul.
I developed the idea for Vastegar with a friend back in 2002. The idea was to do a trilogy of films, or six hours of television, where a sword-and-sorcery fantasy world leaks into modern day, with a horror-movie style villain at its core.
I began to write the sequels as well, including scenes set in the past which were among my favorites, but I knew the first screenplay would have to stand on its own. That meant that the villain would have to be defeated. This was a difficult sequence to write, since Vastegar is immortal and nearly undefeatable, and it was a big leap to make so early in the story.
So even though he's defeated at the end of this script, you can bet that he'll be back ....
